  • We are making a commitment to positive speech by learning to let the Holy Spirit, not anger or circumstances, control what we say. In our adult class on Sunday morning, as we go from summer into fall 2010 we are studying what scripture teaches about the great power of words to encourage and heal, or to intimidate and wound. Our study guide is The Weight of Your Words: Measuring the Impact of What you Say by Joseph M. Stowell.
  • "In God I trust; I will not be afraid. What can mortal man do to me?" So sings the Psalmist. But quote that to a crime victim - or a junior high student - and they'll tell you fear of "mortal men" can prove a formidable obstacle! This fall 2010 as we study scripture together on Wednesday evenings we are seeking biblical insight and solutions for the fear of human shame, rejection and harm that we all face. Our study guide is When People Are Big and God Is Small: Overcoming Peer Pressure, Codependency, and the Fear of Man, written by Edward T. Welch.

  • Our brother Caleb Jones was in India for three weeks in March. He was working with a friend and sister in Christ who has founded an orphanage in the southwestern state of Kerala, where his musical artistry opened doors to places that are normally inaccessible where Caleb's openhandedness planted seeds of the good news of Christ. Members at University Parkway are very excited and thankful to have a missionary from our own number, and give God the glory for Caleb's work with the children and the community there.
  • Wherever you happen to be on second and fourth Tuesday evenings of each month, say a prayer for our Street Ministry between 7:00 and 8:00 p.m. Our dear sister Susan is going out into our neighborhood and giving food to people who need it, making sure to glorify our Lord Jesus as the giver of all good gifts. (One U.S. household in 28 suffers hunger; one in ten experiences food insecurity, and even more among households with children, according to the National Priorites Project.) Susan has patiently encouraged others to join her and to recognize this important way for us to serve our community in the name of Jesus.

  • Pray for our sister and brother in Christ, Cheryl and Bren White, and for their work with Operation French World, "an informal effort on the part of churches of Christ and faithful Christians worldwide to get the Gospel to the lost of the French speaking world." We are thankful for Cheryl and Bren visiting us again on June 6, 2010.

  • Ongoing Need: Haiti

People in Haiti, including our sisters and brothers, will continue to suffer desperate need for a very long time because of the disastrous earthquake on Tuesday, January 12, 2010. But your generous, ongoing support will ease the suffering, strengthen the body, and lead more people to Christ. All three of the following organizations are led by our brothers and sisters in Churches of Christ and are already responding. Your donations will reach people in need. Please consider committing to make an ongoing, monthly donation.

For a personal perspective, visit Four Haiti, the blog of four Christians who have formed a team to provide aid in the earthquake-shocked island nation. Team member Katarina is originally from Fairview, WV and a close family friend of Jennifer Lackey's relatives there. Among other things, they are helping local people find a suitable site for a children's home.

  • The Truth Project® began Sunday evening, October 11, 2009 at University Parkway church of Christ and concluded on March 10, 2010. The project is a small group study created to help Christians develop a more biblical worldview.(1) The project represents the possibility for exponential change within the body of Christ, as thousands of Christians have already been transformed by this curriculum. We express our gratitude to Bro. Caleb Jones for organizing and leading this very special study.

  • SCHEDULE CHANGE: Our Third Sunday Fellowship Meals (at the church building after services) have been a great blessing. Now as we keep in time wih changing schedules in 2010, our new schedule will be FIFTH SUNDAY FELLOWSHIP MEALS. Make plans to join us!

  • Thank you, Doug Hamilton of the Camp Hill, PA Church of Christ, for your "Gospel Rehabilitation Therapy" presentations on June 28, 2009. We look forward to seeing you again!

  • The great need in Burma (Myanmar) is no longer presented in the mainstream media as it was just two years ago, but Cyclone Nargis is a disaster of staggering scope, affecting two million people, many of them already in poverty, and leaving 140,000 people dead. Local news in Burma reveals that residents continue "to count the cost of the 2008 Cyclone Nargis disaster and international aid agencies struggle to help hundreds of thousands of desperate farmers" as the continue to struggle "to stave off poverty" (The Irrawaddy, January 11, 2010). They continue to need our prayers and the compassion and relief work of Christians.

We can participate directly in giving food and water in the name of Jesus.

Partners In Progress, a ministry of the Windsong church of Christ (6th & Izard) in Little Rock, AR, together with White's Ferry Road Church of Christ Relief Ministries, are working with seven of the hardest-hit villages, helping them get back on their feet again. As a result, they are being asked to present their faith; in one village, nine have been baptized. Churches are being planted! Their work also extends to Cambodia and elsewhere in the region, where hundreds have put on Christ as a result of the Lord's work in this area.

Watch the video below, then visit www.PartnersInProgress.org to learn more about how you can participate in this good work.

  • On August 12, 2007 we had the very special opportunity to meet George and Joyce Akpabli from Benin, West Africa. (The BBC has a quick overview of Benin.) George Akpabli is the director of the Benin Training Center, the world's largest French-language training center for preachers in Churches of Christ. Over 200 congregations have been planted throught the work of the Benin Training Center! We are thankful to be their fellow workers in Christ.
